Seeing how and what certain strength athletes and fitness gurus eat is a pretty popular topic. Everyone has their own way to approach nutrition, and each person will likely have things dialed in based upon what works best for them.
I’ve decided to film a few days of my eating for those that might be interested in my nutritional approach. Some would think that being a powerlifter I just eat whatever I want, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. I pride myself in eating pretty well and healthy about 90% of the time. I believe this is key to optimum performance, and a vital aspect that many strength athletes are missing out on. While I’m no bodybuilder and won’t be stepping on a stage, it’s clear that being leaner and having more muscle for a weight class sport is only going to help me in the long run.
The video below is a sample day of eating for me on a Friday. Currently, this is the only day that I don’t train. I do typically get in about 20-40 minutes of steady state cardio, usually walking. This day is designed to give my body some rest and get some blood flow moving to help with overall recovery. Considering I do not train on this day, my calories and carbs are drastically lower than most days. I base most of my nutrition off of a weekly caloric count, rather than daily. As such, this has me eating at a deficit for the day (about 500 calories below maintenance level).
Here are some of the supplements that are mentioned/seen in the video:
- NutraBio Whey Protein Isolate – Chocolate
- NutraBio Micellar Casein – Chocolate
- NutraBio Men’s Multi-Sport
- NutraBio Fish Oil
- NutraBio CLA
- NutraBio Extreme Joint Care
- NutraBio ZMA
