Your 6th–8th grader is going to train this summer. The only question is whether they learn to do it right.
Most kids hit the field, the court, or the weight room with no real foundation so they reinforce bad movement, plateau early, or get hurt. Learn to Train changes that. Over 6 weeks, we teach middle schoolers how to actually jump, sprint, throw, and lift. The skills every sport is built on.

WHY LEARN TO TRAIN
Between ages 11 and 14, the body sits in one of the most trainable windows it will ever have. The nervous system is wired to pick up movement skills fast but that window doesn’t stay open forever. What an athlete learns now becomes the motor foundation they carry into high school sports and beyond.
This isn’t about maxing out or chasing soreness. It’s about building the movement literacy that makes every future rep, sprint, and jump more powerful and less injury prone. We coach the why behind every drill, so your athlete understands their own body instead of just copying a workout.
Each session will be instructed by Coach Brandon Smitley, MS CSCS USAW CPT.
Coach Brandon has spent over 15 years working with athletes and personal training clients. He’s spent time with Purdue University, Indiana State University, and North Carolina A&T State University. He’s also helped professional athletes, as well as dozens of high school athletes go play at the next level. He holds his Master’s degree in Strength and Conditioning from Indiana State University, and his Bachelor’s degree in Health and Fitness from Purdue University.
Each session will be instructed with a proper preparation and warm up, technique for the day, and then corresponding training to build those qualities and build the mechanics and foundations so that it can be implemented in practice and in games in sport. Finally, the group will break down to have some friendly competition and fun using a variety of athletic demanding movements and tasks.

A NOTE FOR PARENTS
You may have heard that lifting “stunts growth” in young athletes. It doesn’t. That’s one of the most stubborn myths in youth sports. Properly coached resistance training is one of the safest and most beneficial things a developing athlete can do. It strengthens bone, sharpens coordination, and dramatically lowers injury risk down the road. The danger was never strength training, it’s unsupervised, poorly coached training. That’s exactly what this camp replaces.
